Shahrzad is Founder and Director of the Florida Community Development Legal Project. She is also the Director of the Affordable Housing and Community Development practice group at Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc.


Shahrzad’s practice focuses on the representation of non-profit developers and other organizations that are developing or preserving affordable housing and community based facilities. Her representation includes providing counsel on non-profit corporate governance and business development, drafting and negotiating business agreements including joint ventures, the formation and structuring of business entities, and transactional legal drafting and document review pertaining to the affordable housing real estate development process from site acquisition through closing.


Since law school graduation Shahrzad has dedicated her career to the representation of organizations engaged in community development activities. She is frequently asked to speak at local, state, and national affordable housing events. Most recently the American Bar Association (ABA) asked Shahrzad to speak at their annual Affordable Housing Conference in Washington D.C. and at the ABA Annual Land Institute about gentrification issues facing Miami and the role of community lawyers.


Shahrzad is a member of the Dade-County Bar Association, the Florida Housing Coalition, the South Florida Community Development Coalition, The Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar, and the American Bar Association’s Forum Committee on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law. She also serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law where she teaches Affordable Housing.


She is the recipient of the National Housing Law Project’s 2013 Housing Justice Award, the 2010 Recipient of the Legal Services of Greater Miami Alfred Feinberg Memorial Award, the Second Runner Up Recipient of the 2014 Florida Bar Foundation’s Steven M. Goldstein Award for Excellence, was featured in Attorney at Law Magazine as one of 15 Attorneys to Watch in 2015, and in 2016 received the South Florida Community Development Coalition Rising Star Award for Excellence in Community Development and a 2018 Daily Business Review "On The Rise" Award recipient. Shahrzad also serves on the Enterprise Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing Preservation Advisory Board for Miami-Dade County.


Shahrzad was born in Wheeling, West Virginia and raised in Steubenville Ohio.
