Ground-Breaking Affordable Housing 2018
Updated: Apr 19, 2018
Wendy Wilson, Esq. attends a gold-shovel ceremony on March 21, 2018 at a construction site in Broward County, FL where four (4) non-profit affordable housing developers are building twenty (20) affordable single-family homes. The non-profits are: Broward Alliance for Neighborhood Development, Liberia Economic and Social Development , HOMES, Inc. and Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida.
The homes range in price from $211k to $240k. Each family must be at or below 120 percent of AMI (approximately $64,000 for a family of 4) and the lower priced homes are reserved for families at 80% of AMI. Broward County is selecting and income-certifying the families which were selected by lottery from a pool of potential applicants. The homes will have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a 2-car garage and fenced-in backyard, although some homes will have 4 bedrooms.
Broward County donated forty (40) vacant lots to ten (10) different non-profit organizations for in-fill affordable housing to eliminate blight and strengthen neighborhoods and families. Homeownership creates a sense of community pride and helps families build stability and equity. Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc. and Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. are proud to represent these non-profits in their goal to increase and preserve the supply of decent affordable housing in Broward County.
